Wunder puzzle take apart

This series of 3 puzzles was crafted in 2011. The original designer is unknown but Eric managed to get an original copy and made some variations of increasing difficulty.

Each dovetail has different mechanism: the first is easy and you should not have any difficulty with it, the other 2 have some tricky mechanism that will challenge you a bit more.

Each dovetail has 2 wooden parts and the devetail joints have a strange shape, well that not the usual shape for these kind of puzzles. And the trick is also, when you have unlocked the mechanism, to slide the 2 parts in the correct way, which needs a bit of practise. No force required!

The craftmanship is very good and very precise. Well, precision is the key for dovetails.

After some time and pain in he hands I managed to open all the dovetails. I liked all of them and there is a real progression from one to the other puzzle. I think this is nice to have made a series of 3 puzzles and not just one puzzle: more puzzling fun! I also like that Eric does not produce a lot of dovetails so, it changes a bit and this is very appreciated.

I won't comment on the precise mechanism, I will just tell you that it's not super complex inside, but well implemented and very efficient.

The Pharaoh's Secret

Designed by Perry McDaniel and produced by Norman Sandfield, this nice dovetail bears well its name as the goal is to open it and discover the secret of the Pharaoh.

This puzzle is a nice addition to the series of dovetail puzzles by the Sandfield brothers and implements a nice and pretty new kind of step. 
Not being a difficult puzzle, this one shows its secrets pretty quickly. Indeed, it does not have a lot of steps and they are pretty easy to discover.

A good thing with this puzzle is that you don't have to be as careful as with other dovetail puzzles because it's unlikely that you will cut yourself with the dovetail joints.

Usually, Pharaoh's pyramids were pretty much like a giant puzzle to solve to be able to reach the Pharaoh and one could have expected more steps to open this pyramid.

However, the nice shape of the puzzle and mechanism are worth the case to have it in your collection or to play with it.

Sandfield’s Dovetail Donut

When it comes to wooden dovetails, you cannot have better than the designs from the Sandfield brothers and crafted by Perry McDaniel. The quality is awsome, the mechanism clever, the wood wonderful, well you cannot go wrong!!

Don't they look delicious?

"Donut" dovetails are not common at all, and this may be the only one that exists. Usually you have the common shape: square or triangle. So this is nice to see a new shape :)

As usual with Perry's craftmanship, the quality is very good. The fit is perfect (which is very appreciated not to be spoiled!) and the wood is soft to touch. The fit being perfect, the dovetail joints are very sharp. So I cannot recommand more than you take a lot of care where you put your fingers when trying to solve and reassemble the puzzle....

Having said that, the mechanism is pretty unusual and completely new among the Sandfield's puzzles, but it works!

No wonder that you will like this donut, one bite and you're in paradise!!
